Elijah Morgan

Five generations of my Hayden Family

Current areas of research are:

Parents of Joseph B. Hayden and Elijah Morgan.

Joseph Hayden was born between 1810 (death certificate) and 1815 (1850 Federal census) in Pennsylvania. In 1845, he was in Shelby Co., MO, where he married Sarah Margaret Wood. In 1850, he, Sarah and son James are in Versailles Twp., Allegheny Co., PA. In 1860 and 1870, he and family are in Shelby Co., MO. By 1880, they have emigrated to Oregon. A letter written by his grand daughter, Minnie Hayden Wood, states his father's name was Ebenezer. Based on this information, I believe Joseph is related to the Haydens in Rostraver Twp., Westmoreland Co., PA. A y-chromosome test is in progress to test this hypothesis. Please click the link on the left to see these test results.

The earliest record I have for Elijah Morgan is the 1850 census when he was in Lyons Twp., Wayne Co., NY. There are many Morgan lines in the US. See the Morgan Project page on the links page. Y-chromosome test results of a male line descendant of Elijah show an exact match at 25 markers with two other Morgans who are first cousins. They are descended from David Kernal Morgan born 1837 in Ohio. We are not yet certain of the connection which in all likelyhood exists within a few generations of Elijah. The Morgan cousins are now using what we know about Elijah to narrow their research to areas of New York State. You can view the Morgan results at http://www.small-stuff.com/MORGAN/results.htm or follow the Morgan link on the links page. Our Morgans belong to Group # M0007.
