Six Haden's have
joined the project. Five members have well documented genealogies.
Kits 38676, 57591 and N70183 descend from Anthony Haden and Kits 57000
and
60241 from John Haden. Kits 60241, 57000 and 38676 are all 25 markers.
Kit 57591 has higher resolution at 37 markers. Using the FamilyTreeDNA
calculator, the probability that Kits 60241 and 57000 share John as the
first common ancestor is 61%. The calculator predicts Kits 38676 and
57591 share Anthony as the first common ancestor is 20%. This does not
mean that the pedigrees are incorrect. It just demonstrates the nature
of applying probabilities to the unlikely event of the mutation of a
loci on the Y-chromosome. If there some question whether or not Anthony
was the common ancestor, the 20% probability does not rule it out but
suggests that primary source documentation should be sought before
concluding the pedigree is correct.
We can use the calculator to estimate the probability that John and
Anthony share a common ancestor within a number of generations.
Counting generations back from John, these probabilities are as follows.

So, it is estimated that a common ancestor has about a 10% probability
of having lived within 7 generations, or about 2 centuries, prior to
John. Since John lived in the 18th century, there is a 10% probability
that a common male Haden ancestor lived in the 16th century or later.
Kit 122852 is only able to trace his line back to James Haden. However,
the Y-chromosome DNA results suggest that James and John share a common
Haden males ancestor. Ancestors of Kit 122852 have used the surname
"Hayden" since the 1860's.
